Allison opened her eyes slowly and grimaced. She moaned and clutched her head. She was dizzy and her head hurt just a bit. Eventually, her surrounding came into focus. It was dark. Tall, menacing looking trees loomed over her. It was quiet, eerily so. No animal sounds. No birds. Not even a wind stirring the branches of the trees.
She got up from her kneeling position and wiped the dust off her clothes. Her mouth hung slightly open, in shock and awe, and maybe a bit of fear. “Where am I?” she whispered. She was utterly alone, deep in the center of a forbidding forest. To say she was confused was an understatement. Slowly she spun around and whispered, “Hello?” Whispered, because she was afraid of who might answer. “Carolee, are you here?”
No response.
